The Divisional Officer, D O of Bangangte in the Nde division of the West region is reported to have sealed several shops Several shops in an area known as quarter II Baganté because of rising insecurity.
According to reports, the administrator considers the sealed shops a breeding ground for acts of insecurity. The area is said to be playing host to several of off licenses and nightclubs.
Meanwhile many have questioned the main reason behind the sealing of their shops. Some of those affected have claimed thier shops have nothing to do with the promotion of insecurity. One of the shop owners said: “I deal in food stuffs, I don’t sell beer, I don’t sell alcohol”.
The inhabitants to an extent, have placed the blame on the forces of security who according to them do not detain criminals handed over to them by the population properly.
“Even when the criminals are arrested and detained, they will be seen around the next day, commiting the same crimes,” noted Nami Didier, a resident of Quarter II.
While some have taken upon themselves to condemn the DO’s act, other inhabitants do not find any reason to reproach the administrator. This is the case with a resident who said: ” The quarter heads and other notables are aware of it but the phenomenon keeps growing.” Three months ago, a trader assassinated in Bagangté by unidentified men.
