The Confederation of African Football, CAF has today announced a decision to move the next Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast, to January-February 2024.
The main reason for this unanimous decision by members of CAF is due to the horrible climatic conditions usually experienced in the host country in June/July, when the tournament was originally meant to take place.
It should be known that it was formerly within the January-February period that the tournament was often played, before being moved later into the year.
One of the major reasons for this shift in calendar was so the tournament doesn’t coincide with running leagues in Europe especially, where a majority of African professionals ply their trade.
This makes it the second successive AFCON postponed, after the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon was pushed to January-February this year.
