Citizens of Freetown in Sierra Leone engaged in a massive riot today Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

The anti-government protesters clashed with the police in the streets of Freetown as they protested against the rising cost of living in the West African nation.

In this line, the protesters demanded the departure of the current president, Julius Maada whose mandate would expire in 10 months.

Sierra Leone Vice President Mohamed, Juldeh Jalloh indicated that: “These unscrupulous individuals have embarked on a violent and unauthorised protest which has led to the loss of lives of innocent Sierra Leoneans including security personnel.”

In response to violent protest that has reportedly caused several deads, the government of Sierra Leone imposed a curfew.

It should be recalled that President Julius Maada was elected into power as president of Sierra in 2018.
