Some 400 teachers under the Ministry of Secondary education in Cameroon have reportedly gone for close to a year without salaries, MMI has learnt.
The said teachers mostly of the 2021 batch were recruited in January 2022 and integrated by the ministry of public service.
Reports say a majority of them have not received a dime as salary, making life difficult given the distant areas to where they are posted.
“I am a secondary school teacher of the 2021 batch. There is a problem we will like the ministers of public service, Secondary Education, and finance to be aware of” said a teacher who opted not to be named for fear of reprisal.
The teacher told MMI that they suspect discrimination given that some of their colleagues of the same batch are being paid while they wallow in suffering
“We are over 400 Teachers without salary for close to ten months and our batch mate are having salary but we don’t”, the instructor went on lamenting that, “We have been posted to the far north and some kilometers from our families. How can we eat and rent a house without salary for close to 10 months?”

These are, however, very trying times for several journalists, especially for MMI whose reporters have to brave all the odds to work remotely for fear of reprisal attacks.
That’s why we continue to ask for your constant support.
