Cameroon’s Minister for Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga has warned against corporal punishment in schools.
The information is contained in a release signed by minister Nalova Lyonga, on January 16, 2023.
According to the release, corporal punishment which comprises of canning or flogging a student is “prohibited in schools in accordance with Article 5 of Law No. 98/004 of April 14, 1998 on the orientation of education in Cameroon.”
She went ahead to emphasize in the release that acceptable and appropriate methods of punishing students are included in school rules.
“Consequently, sanctions will be taken against schools/teachers who resort to such a mode of punishment,” she added.
She has urged all secondary schools and their staff to endeavor to apply the above-mentioned instruction in their various institutions.
