Cabral Libii, leader of Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN), told President Paul Biya on his 90th birthday that it is time for young people to take over responsibility in the country he has ruled for nearly 40 years now.

The 42-year-old 2018 Presidential candidate said it is the young people who led Cameroon and Africa out of colonialism and they must take responsibility now in Cameroon.

“If we need to wish the President of the Republic a happy birthday, it is important to remember that the history of Cameroon and Africa was the work of young men and women of good will. It’s time for young people to take responsibility,” Cabral Libii said in a post on Monday, February 13.

This date marked the 90th birthday of President Paul Biya, an occasion that he celebrate privately with his family at Mvomeka’a, his village.

President Biya is the oldest world leader at the moment, and is also the second longest serving leader in Africa, after Equatorial Guinea’s President Obiang Nguema.

Libii’s statement about young people taking over leadership comes at a time when the three topmost positions in Cameroon are occupied by people who are over 70 years old.

President Biya leads the age competition, followed by Senate President Marcel Niat Njifenji, who is 89 years old.

Other age rivals in the government include the President of the Constitutional Council, Clement Atangana (81) and the President od the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril (73).

Alongside his advanced age, Hon Cavaye has been head of Parliament for 30 years now, while his boss, Biya, has led the country for 39 years.

November 6 makes the President 40 years in power.
