Armed men suspected to be separatist fighters set on fire a filling station in Bamenda belonging Total Energies company on the night of Tuesday, February 28.
The armed men recorded a video in which they could be heard celebrating the act, claiming they were responsible for the fire that nearly destroyed the the filling station and others around it.
The fire was later put out by nearby residents, who used water and fire extinguishers.
The filling station that was attacked had close to three other fuel stations around it, and if the fire was not contained, “the impact would have been deadly,” a source told MMI.
The separatists advanced no reason for setting the station ablaze. In their previous attacks, they have been targeting companies they believe are serving the Cameroon Government’s interest, including brewery companies and the Cameroon Development Corporation.
They have hardly attacked any of the numerous filling stations littered across the Northwest and Southwest Regions, which have been in armed conflict since 2016.
