Suspects arrested in connection with the murder of radio host Martinez Zogo are said to be making their third appearance before the Yaounde Military Court this Friday, March 3.
They were initially scheduled to appear in court yesterday but it was postponed to today.
Media billionaire Jean Pierre Amougou Belinga is among the top suspects who are being questioned for the journalist’s murder.
This will be their third appearance before the court since they were arrested on February 6.
If there is any evidence that reinforces the accusations against them, the suspects will be transferred from preliminary detention at the State Secretariat of Defence to pre-trial detention at the Yaounde Central Prison, Kondengui.
They first appeared before the Government Commissioner at the Yaounde Military Court on Tuesday, February 14, where they spent nearly 10 hours at the court before later taken back to the cells at SED.
The suspects were again taken to the court in the afternoon of February 23, and left the facility at about 1:30am on February 24.
As at now, no official charge has yet been been levied against them, after a confession made by Justin Danwe, Director of Special Operations at the secret service, who is also one of the suspects, implicated Amougou Belinga and several high ranking personalities, including the Minister of Justice Laurent Esso.
The government reaffirmed, in a communique on Wednesday, March 1, that it will do everything possible to bring Martinez Zogo’s killers to book.
Last month, it was announced that several suspects had been arrested in connection with the case. But investigations to prove their guilt are still going on.
March 2 marks exactly 40 days since the body of Martinez Zogo, managing director of Amplitude FM, was found on the outskirts of Yaounde.
Journalists and the general public have been curious for information on the progress of investigations on the case, but the government says it will be made known in due time.
