A man in his early 50s died and has recently been buried after he was beaten by the mob for reportedly stealing a chicken.
Last week, we was caught with a stolen fowl, severely beaten and he died at a hospital in Bamenda.
Popularly known at Old Town, Bamenda, as St. Peter, the 50-year old is said to have been a notorious bandit in the neighborhood.
His corpse was removed from the Bamenda Regional Hospital mortuary on Friday, March 17, and taken to his village for burial.
What caught the attention of many was the coffin in which he was put in.
“The coffin was coloured in red because of the nature of his death; stealing,” said Daouda, a native of Old Town.
Daouda added that many of those who contributed to “St Peter’s” death have not been at ease with themselves ever since he was pronounced dead.
He indicated that many of them regretted they didn’t want to kill him during the beatings, but wanted to stop him from stealing again.
