Houses are currently being demolished in Buea Town, a locality in Buea, South West Region of Cameroon which was yesterday hit by massive floods.
It is part of measures to clear the poor drainage systems which was one of the main causes of the deadly floods, authorities have said.
“The council is going to open all waterways in Buea, no matter who is involved… I can assure you, the council has not given a permit for people to build on waterways,” declared the Mayor of Buea Council.
The demolition is coming two days after the severe floods which hit the city of Buea on Saturday, March 18, 2023 — leaving two people dead and many others injured.
Prior to the destruction, staff of the Buea council descended to the scene to collect statics of those affected by the floods.
