Yanick Fonki, Editor-in-Chief of Divine Mercy Television in Buea, has been sentenced to three years at the Buea Central Prison for non-possession of valid insurance document for his vehicle, after he knocked down a man weeks back.
The sentence was pronounced by the presiding judge of the Buea High Court, Magistrate Njonjo Njie, on March 31.
It came two weeks after Yanick Fonki was arrested and detained at the Buea Central Prison.
He first appeared in court on March 21, where both parties told the judge the matter had been settled amicably and that the complainant was withdrawing all charges.
Fonki pleaded guilty to the charges of non-possession of valid insurance at the time his vehicle had an accident, and the case was adjourned to March 22.
However, the hearing done in the chambers was brief and Magistrate Njonjo programmed judgement for March 31.
