Hundreds of bike riders in Bamenda, North West Region of Cameroon have come out to bid farewell to their colleague who was on April 12, 2023 killed by a police vehicle.
After removing the body of the deceased biker from the Bamenda Regional Hospital Mortuary this Saturday morning, the bikers manifested at Hospital Roundabout as they prepared to ferry his body to Momo Division.
The biker hails from Batibo, Momo Division, several miles away from the town of Bamenda.
“The hearts of the people of Bamenda city are still in pain. The mortal remains of a commercial bike rider who was shot dead last week by the military has just been removed mortuary. His colleagues have taken it upon themselves to display around town. It is disheartening how he had to die this way,” a resident told MMI.
A police truck is said to have knocked and killed the biker with a woman he was transporting around Fish Pond Hill, Bamenda.
Their deaths led to a huge protest in Bamenda.
Biker marched to the Governor’s office in anger, describing the accident as a “deliberate act” since this was not the first of such incidents.
