Celebrities and influencers have taken on social media to denounce the poor quality of services provided by major telecom companies in Cameroon.

They say they will be boycotting the services of Orange and MTN Cameroon by turning all their devices to airplane mode between midday and 2:00PM Cameroon time on Monday, April 24th, 2023.

Mitoumba Ebenezer Kepombia, a renowned actor and movie producer is one of the most vocal persons advocating for the boycott.

“The internet is very expensive in our country. Let’s turn on airplane mode this Monday between 12PM – 2:00 PM,” he wrote on his Facebook.

Emy Dany Basong also took to Facebook to tell her over one million followers that, “it’s inadmissible that we are facing such price hikes with no pity.”

Ordinary Cameroonians are finding it difficult to cope with these price hikes amid high cost of living in the country.

Since the start of 2023, prices of basic goods and services have witnessed a drastic increase, amid a high rate of unemployment.

“It’s really too much, we have had enough of the networks in Cameroon. Every time they’ll be giving […] complaints about optic fibre issues. When we do not even have jobs,” a Douala resident told Mimi Mefo Info.

“They should tell Cameroonians how much an optic fibre cost let’s contribute and buy it for them,” our source added.
