A family of internally displaced persons living at Mvogbetsi, Yaounde, risks being homeless and stranded, as they have continued receiving threats to evacuate a warehouse in which they have been living since December.

The family head who spoke to MMI said the retired director identified as Adamou Moussa, who lives around them, has insisted they must pack out of the warehouse or be thrown out.

The head of this internally displaced family from the Northwest Region says they have been living freely in the warehouse since December 2022, after registering with an association of IDPs in Mvogbetsi called ONESS.

The said retired director who is now chasing them out, had approved of their stay in the facility when they moved into it.

But on Monday, April 24, he warned the family to pack out by 10am the next day, that’s Tuesday April 25. He vowed to bring thugs to throw them out.

“Our children are going to school. We have no where to go to. Are we not Cameroonians like him? He has no good reason now, just wickedness,” lamented the family head who spoke to MMI, adding that they “need help and intervention”.

“We have no power. We ran from war to look for temporary settlement before going back. Now we are under persecution,” he added.

Officials of the Yaounde six council visited the settlement this Tuesday, and promised to return on Friday.
