Villagers at Mile 25 Bamunka, Ndop, Ngohketunja Division in Cameroon’s North West Region are in shock after two young girls died this morning of poison.
Delphine and Shekina, aged 22 and 9 respectively, died in the hospital after they consumed breakfast and fell ill instantly.
“They prepared the pap (maize porridge) themselves and ate when their parents left for their various business premises,” said a Ndop resident.
“It is believed that it was the remains of chemical their parents used in the farm that came in contact with the food,” Malvin spoke to us from the hospital where dozens of villagers gathered.
Locals told MMI that the children must have “mistakenly added Mocap into the food.”
Mocap is a poisonous substance that is sprayed in the farm to eliminate insects.
“As they started crying, they were immediately rushed to the hospital where they died,” Malvin.
The eldest, Delphine was a student Nurse on internship at the Grace Garden hospital Ndop.
