The correction of scripts for the Baccalaureate and Probatoire official examinations in the French sub-system of education has been brought to a halt following a decision by markers to embark on a strike
In a letter addressed to the Director General of the Cameroon Baccalaureate Office, the examiners announced that they were carrying out a protest move to air their grievances.
The letter indicated that they “are fed up with the maltreatment to which they are regularly subjected.”
“At each exam session, we are faced with non-payment of our allowances and various bonuses (corrections, travel, deliberations, etc.); even when these are paid, it is with a delay of one year on average that we perceive them,” the letter read.
Several other factors, according to the grumbling teachers, equally added to their list of frustrations.
They said, ” The (deliberate) errors on their pay slips, the omission of names in the payment statements, discrimination in payment to mention a few.”
According to these teachers, no scripts will be marked until the authorities address their plights.
