The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has rejected the appeal made by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) seeking the disqualification of Gabon from the U23 African Nations Cup (AFCON) Morocco 2023 to start in a few days.
The rejection was made public on Tuesday 19 June 2023 in Loussane.
FECAFOOT’s protest claimed that Gabon had used an ineligible player during the qualification fixture against the young lions. CAF’s appeal board had earlier ruled in favour of Cameroon. Following an appeal by the Gabonese Football Association, the same committee reinstated Gabon, reason why Cameroon went to CAS.
Before the second decision by the CAF appeal board, Armand Feutchine and his team were already preparing for the soccer showpiece after receiving the green light for competition.
The rejection of Cameroon’s appeal now implies that the Panthers of Gabon will be in Morocco instead of the Indomitable Lions.
Gabon defeated Cameroon at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé to book a place for the tourney.
