The Divisional Officer of Mbengwi, Momo Division of the North West Region, Cameroon, has ordered the population of his administrative units to clean their farms, roads and abandoned structures.
The population is accusing the Divisional Officer of overstepping his boundaries and infringing on the role of the Mayor of Mbengwi.
Through a a press radio release which Ngidah Lawrence Che instructed to be read on a local radio over and over says the reason for his request is to ensure proper hygiene and sanitation, including the fight against insecurity which has been prevailing in the area recently.
Any one who refuses to engage in the clean up campaign which is to take effect immediately before the 5th of July 2023 shall be punished by the administration.
“Any person or group of persons who go contrary to this direction, will be subjected to administrative and/or legal sanctions” the release read.
The population of Mbengwi is still trying to understand what is motivating the D.O in his recent outings especially after ordering the closure of shops for respecting ghost town calls and reopening a month later.
