The identity of the plainclothes police officer shot dead this morning in Bamenda has been confirmed. Assila Angos Yves has been officially identified as the officer who lost his life in the unfortunate incident.

The tragic shooting death of Special Branch Commissioner of Police for Bamenda II, Assila Angos Yves, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, has left the population of Bamenda, especially the police corps, in a state of shock and consternation.

An unknown assailant fatally shot the police officer, who was wearing civilian attire, in the Ntamulung Junction neighbourhood. Witnesses allege that they suspect the assailants to be separatist fighters.

“Someone shot him after he stepped out of his car. The shooters carried out the act and then departed,” said an eyewitness.

The population also hesitated to quickly take him to the hospital. A witness reported that they eventually transported him to Mbingo Baptist Hospital, where, despite all efforts to revive him, he tragically passed away.

The Commissioner of Police, Assila Angos Yves, has received praise for being a devoted officer who faithfully carried out his state-assigned duties.

After Amba fighters constantly threatened him, he decided to move from behind the top-star hotel on Cow Street to Up Station.

Identifying him as a police officer was difficult because he always wore civilian attire.
