Cameroon’s national football team, the Indomitable Lions, has successfully secured their spot in the upcoming 2023 African Cup of Nations.
The Lions secured their ticket to the next round by defeating Burundi with a convincing 3-0 victory at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua, located in the North Region of Cameroon.
The game had a slow start, resulting in a 0-0 draw at the end of the first half. This situation caused concern among Cameroonian football fans, as the Lions required at least a high-scoring draw in order to qualify.
Bryan Mbeumo made a significant impact for the Lions as the second half began. In the 46th minute, the midfielder scored the first goal, boosting the Lions’ confidence and giving them the belief that they could succeed throughout the match.
Defender Christopher Wooh scored the second goal in the 59th minute, providing the Lions with a comfortable lead that helped them secure their position in the final stages of the game.
Despite making numerous shots on target, the Swallows of Burundi were unable to break down the Lions. Their efforts proved to be futile.
Vincent Aboubakar appeared to be withholding any excitement for his fans in his hometown of Garoua, until the 93rd minute when he showcased his exceptional skills. The Cameroonian striker scored a well-deserved goal, assisted by M. Mgamaleu, to cap off an incredible evening of football.
“Abouchou, I knew already that the last goal was reserved for you. Congrats to the lions,” reacted Georgette Manjoh after Aboubakar’s goal.
Cameroon has secured their place at the top of Group C with 7 points, while Namibia has also qualified with 5 points. Burundi did not qualify, despite earning 4 points. Kenya has been disqualified.
Despite the win, there are some Cameroonians who are not impressed with the Lion’s performance.
“Congratulations but needs more efforts to continue because Burundi, to me, is not strong in football. Courage guys. May God back you up,” Achawung Geogracia reacted after the game.
