Greetings to the MMI team.
I am writing with a heavy heart about the cruel and opportunistic behaviour of some police officers in Buea who took advantage of the lockdown to unlawfully collect money from residents. Mimi As a carpenter, I was assigned a roofing project in the Molyko New Layout Quarter 2 area. Due to my tight schedule, we had a lack of roofing sheets when we were roofing.
So I went and borrowed (borrowed) some sheets (3) from a friend in the central who had purchased some and stored them for his project. Surprisingly, at around 5 p.m., four police officers stopped us at the police control station behind the central market and demanded the receipt of the zinc, which I did not have.
We were accused of stealing. But I assured them that the zinc was real. They refused, threatening to report us to the judiciary police. They asked for money even after we took time to explain and beg.
My worry is, how can a security officer accuse you of stealing turn around, and ask you to buy your way out? Is such behaviour not contrary to the duty of protecting the population and properties? How can a police officer ask the carrier of suspected stolen items to buy his way out with the stolen items?
Kindly denounce this malicious attitude for me.
