Cameroon’s women’s national football team, the Indomitable Lionesses, arrived in Uganda on Tuesday morning for the first leg of the 2024 Olympics qualifiers.
They will face the Crested Cranes on Thursday, October 26, at the FUFA synthetic stadium in Jinja. Both teams will again lock horns in the return leg on October 31 in Yaounde.
The Ugandan women’s football team, on the other hand, is making its first appearance in the Olympic qualifiers.
However, they are a team on the rise, having reached the semifinals of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in 2022.
The Indomitable Lionesses are the favourites to win the game, considering they rank among the best women’s football teams in Africa.
The Lionesses have won two games and lost two in their last two encounters. But after losing 4-3 to Kenya on September 26, they were unable to advance to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Crested Cranes of Uganda, too, are not to be underestimated. They are playing at home and will enjoy massive support from their fans.
In their last four games, they recorded two draws, one loss, and a win. But they too were knocked out of the first round of the Women’s AFCON qualifiers on September 26.
The Indomitable Lionesses will be hoping to make a strong start to their Olympic qualifier campaign. They know that a win in the first leg will give them an upper hand in the pre-tournament.
Meanwhile, the Crested Cranes will be looking to upset the favourites. They know that they will need to score at least a goal in the first leg if they are to have a chance of qualifying for the Olympics.
The match between Uganda and Cameroon is much anticipated, as fans on both sides expect their teams to right their wrongs since they all failed to qualify for the WAFCON.
Both teams are strong and have a good chance of winning; the match is sure to be exciting and competitive.
Though the Lionesses failed to qualify for the WAFCON, many hope they make it, at least, for the Olympics.
