Nigeria’s ailing comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has recently undergone another leg amputation and is now struggling to communicate, according to the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). The AGN National President, Dr. Emeka Rollas, shared this concerning update with the media, urging the public to offer prayers and support to the veteran entertainer.

In a conversation with journalists, Dr. Rollas expressed the association’s dual concern for Mr. Ibu’s deteriorating health and the condition of another veteran actor, Amaechi Muonagor. Muonagor has been hospitalized at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, Anambra State, for more than two months.

Mimi Mefo Info had previously reported on October 31st and November 6th, that Mr. Ibu’s family had disclosed that the actor had undergone seven surgeries. In a bid to preserve his chances of survival, one of his legs was amputated. The family shared optimism, stating that after five successful surgeries, Mr. Ibu would soon be transported abroad for further medical attention.

Providing an update to Vanguard, Dr. Rollas lamented the challenging circumstances surrounding both actors, saying, “We are resigning to fate concerning the two actors. As I speak with you, Mr. Ibu hardly talks again and he has undergone another leg amputation.”

Dr. Rollas, who recently visited Amaechi Muonagor at the Intensive Care Unit of Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital, described the actor’s health as pitiable, emphasizing the stark contrast to his former self. He appealed to fans and well-wishers to unite with philanthropic Nigerians in supporting Muonagor during this critical time.

“You will shed tears if you see Amaechi Muonagor now, his legs are completely paralyzed. I’m calling on all fans and well-wishers of the actor to join hands with other philanthropic Nigerians to support him in this dire time,” Rollas said.

Revealing an immediate financial gesture, Dr. Rollas announced the approval of N250,000 from the AGN Trust Fund to be sent to Muonagor’s account. However, he acknowledged that this may not be sufficient, considering Muonagor’s interactions with the Guild HMO and Insurance policy.

Taking a proactive stance, Dr. Rollas encouraged young actors to enroll in the AGN HMO and Insurance programs, highlighting the importance of securing their well-being and future in the industry.

It was revealed weeks ago that Amaechi Muonagor is contending with a myriad of health challenges. Tony, Muonagor’s cousin, took to Facebook to share an update on the actor’s health, disclosing a diagnosis of kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke during a three-week hospital admission.

Tony’s Facebook post shed light on the gravity of Muonagor’s situation, stating, “This picture was taken two weeks ago when I visited my cousin Amaechi Muonagor (Aguiyi) at the Nnewi Teaching Hospital. I initially had wanted to quietly assist as much as I could but later decided to make this post to clarify some things so that my friends, fans, and Amaechi’s fans, and indeed the online community, can be better informed.”

He continued, revealing the extent of Muonagor’s health struggles, “Amaechi is currently down with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke. He had been managing his diabetes over the years and living his life. He is at present undergoing weekly dialysis and other treatments at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi.”
