Renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage has filed a petition with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police against fellow Afrobeats star Davido, alleging threats to her life. The petition, circulating online, details an alleged exchange on social media that escalated into a potential security concern.
Savage’s petition claims that Davido, also known as David Adeleke, sent messages to her manager, warning her not to taunt him and use disrespectful language. The dispute appears to be linked to Savage’s relationship with Sophia Momodu, Davido’s ex, and the mother of his daughter, Imade. The petition suggests that Davido asked mutual connections to warn Savage and even went as far as threatening her safety, mentioning, “Be careful in Lagos because he was going to f**k me up.”
“I am writing to bring to your attention a distressing situation involving myself, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, and Mr. David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido,” Savage states in the petition.
“On the 23rd of December, I made a post that included myself and Sophia Momodu on my Instagram Story. Mr. David Adeleke sent messages to my manager… uttering very disrespectful, malicious, and derogatory words to my person,” she explains.
“The events of that day have also led to a barrage of calls and messages from our mutual connections, asking me what I did to Mr. David Adeleke and that he’s upset that I chose to maintain a relationship with Imade’s mother, Sophia Momodu, who he’s having issues with,” she continues.
“The action of Mr. David Adeleke is unethical and can be viewed as a direct threat to my rights to life, privacy, and dignity of my person,” she emphasises.
“I therefore would like to make this complaint and state that in the event that anything untoward or harmful were to happen to me or any member of my family, I would like the members of the Nigerian Police Force to hold Mr. David Adeleke responsible,” she concludes.
As of now, the Lagos Police Command has not confirmed the veracity of the petition, and efforts to reach the police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, have been unsuccessful.
This controversy has not gone unnoticed on social media, as fans observed Davido and Tiwa Savage unfollowing each other on Instagram on January 6, 2024. The once-amicable relationship between the two artists, marked by shared moments with their children, has now taken an unexpected turn.
This online saga escalated after Davido and Tiwa Savage reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram, amid growing speculation on the nature of their rift.
Speculations regarding the reason behind their social media fallout are rife. Some fans suggest it may be linked to Tiwa Savage’s growing friendship with Sophia Momodu, Davido’s ex-wife. The situation has ignited a wave of discussions and debates across various online platforms.
Adding fuel to the fire, music executive Tee Billz, also known as Tunji Balogun, accused Davido of bullying Tiwa Savage. In a series of Instagram posts, Tee Billz claimed that Davido threatened to send thugs after Tiwa Savage, citing this as the third incident of such intimidation.
“What would you do if someone threatened to send ‘boys [thugs]’ to the mother of your son, and this is the third time he’s bullied her?” Tee Billz questions on his Instagram page.
Tee Billz expressed frustration at Davido’s alleged disrespect towards his family and criticised the artist for being nonchalant and arrogant in response to his attempts to reach out. Others have also questioned Davido’s behaviour.
“Picking up a fight with Tiwa because she’s cool with the mother of your child is wild and very childish,” seyishay said.
“Same way Mohbad filled a petition & was ignored by Nigerians.Y’all need to stop making excuses for these celebrities o. The whole “nice guy” thing could be a facade,” another commented, referring to the case of another artist, Mohbad, who filed petitions, was ignored by the police and eventually died.
As the public eagerly awaits further developments, this unfolding saga highlights the complexities and challenges within the Nigerian entertainment industry as personal relationships spill into the public domain, impacting the reputations of the artists involved.
