There has been a surge of relief in some Douala neighbourhoods as Eneo Cameroon has gradually brought power back. The affected neighbourhoods are 2, 3, and 5 which went into darkness following a Wednesday night incident that knocked out service. As of Friday afternoon, technicians and engineers had successfully repaired 15 of the 17 major distribution lines damaged at Ndogsimbi.

The company reported that faulty distribution lines were being brought back online at 2:30 pm on Friday. While 15 lines are now operational, efforts are still underway to address new faults affecting the remaining two lines serving specific areas.

Eneo Cameroon expressed its appreciation for the patience of customers affected by the outage. The company did not provide an estimated timeframe for when the remaining two lines would be repaired.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Cameroon’s energy sector. In recent years, the country has grappled with infrastructure issues, fuel shortages, and rising costs, all of which have contributed to power outages and service disruptions.

Eneo Cameroon is the country’s largest electricity provider, serving over 1.2 million customers. The company has been working to improve its infrastructure and expand its generation capacity in recent years. However, Wednesday’s outage across many Douala neighbourhoods is a reminder of the epileptic nature of the power supply and the work that remains to be done.

Recently, Cameroonian Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, said that after March, load shedding in the country will be a thing of the past.
The Minister gave the government assurance of a firm and stable power supply in the country during a meeting he held with the management of the Cameroon Employers Union, GECAM, on Thursday, February 22, in Douala.

The consultative meeting, which was aimed at ensuring transparency, was held following the continued disruption of electricity supply in some areas in Douala and Yaounde, affecting businesses in the country.
