Cameroon’s First Lady, Mrs. Chantal Biya, has extended her support to the first edition of the upcoming National Cycling Tour in Bagofit, East Region.
The announcement was made by Minister Joseph Le during the 6th preparatory meeting for the race, scheduled to take place on March 28, 29, and 30 in Bagofit Sun City.
Mrs. Chantal Biya’s approval for the association of her social organisations, including the Chantal Biya Foundation, the Chantal Biya Research Institute, and the President Paul Biya Excellence Centre for Technology, adds considerable weight to the organisers of this cycling event.
The Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reform, Joseph Le, who also serves as the promoter of the three-day national cycling race, shared the news with officials of the Cameroon Cycling Federation and members of the local organising committee recently.
He emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts for the success of the event.
“I am very glad today because we have received the okay of the First Lady of Cameroon, Chantal Biya, who has accepted that structures like the Chantal Biya Foundation and the others should come and join us, and together we organise this event, so we need now to work,” Minister Joseph Le stated.
During deliberations with various commissions responsible for organising the race, it was revealed that 95 cyclists from all 10 regions of the country have already registered to participate in the three categories of the race.
Officials anticipate that this number will increase significantly by the day of the event.
A visit to the race track in Bangovit has been scheduled for this Sunday, March 10.
The endorsement by Mrs. Chantal Biya underscores the significance of the National Cycling Tour.
The First Lady is the matron of other cycling races in the country, including the yearly Chantal Biya International Cycling Tour, the International Cycling Tour of Cameroon and the Grand Prix Ongola.
