Security officials in Yaounde have said the son of journalist Louisette Ngo Yebel is responsible for her death. Louisette’s son, Batek Yebel Landry, reportedly killed his mother with two unknown individuals, at the Etoa-Meki neighbourhood in Yaoundé.
Landry has been arrested, while his alleged accomplices are on the run. A report that aired on Canal 2 International on Tuesday night indicated that Landry’s accomplices are drug dealers.
The report also said Louisette was killed, dismembered, and kept in two suitcases.
Security found that the suitcases were hidden during a search of the victim’s whereabouts. She was head of communication at the Commission for Central African Forests, COMIFAC, before her murder.
The Investigation and Documentation Department of the judicial police in Yaoundé is currently questioning Landry while investigations are ongoing.
It remains unclear what Landry’s motives are. He recently graduated from Enam as an administrative secretary.
The incident has left residents of Etoa-Meki district in shock.
MMI is currently investigating this story, as atleast four journalists have been killed in the past three years either by the government or separatists in the English-speaking regions.
