Hundreds of mourners gathered today to pay homage to David Eto’o, the father of FECAFOOT President and Cameroonian football legend, Samuel Eto’o, as he began his final journey on earth.
The solemn event took place at the Military Hospital mortuary in Bonanjo, Douala, where the remains of David Eto’o were laid to rest pending burial on Saturday, April 13.
A sombre atmosphere enveloped the premises of the hospital as a large crowd of mourners witnessed the removal of the deceased’s body.
Among those in attendance was Oswald Baboké, Deputy Director of the Civil Cabinet, who represented President Paul Biya at the ceremony.
Cabinet ministers attended the ceremony alongside other senior government officials, including the Littoral Governor, Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua.
Samuel Eto’o’s former teammate and former Indomitable Lions coach, Rigobert Song, was also sighted at the scene.
David Eto’o will be laid to rest this weekend at his native village of Ngambè in the Sanaga Maritime Division of the Littoral Region.
The funeral of David Eto’o comes at a time when the FECAFOOT president has been battling challenges with the Minister of Sports over the appointment of a new technical team for the Indomitable Lions.
Eto’o who was notably absent from the contract signing of the new coach, Marc Brys, had also been given 72 hours by the FECAFOOT executive committee to nominate a different technical team, as they claim they were not consulted by the ministry.
