Popular US-based Nigerian dancer and singer, Korra Obidi, was reportedly attacked with acid and a knife during a live stream on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Obidi, currently being transported to the hospital, shared the horrific ordeal with her followers on social media, calling it a wake-up call to the dangers of online hate turning into physical violence.
In a disturbing video posted to her Instagram account, Obidi is seen writhing in pain, with her face visibly burned. She cries out for Coca-Cola, presumably to neutralize the acid’s burning effect, while frantically washing her face with the beverage.
Two police officers later appear in the video, one applying a solution to lessen the pain on Obidi’s face, while the other administers first aid to her back.
In the caption accompanying the video, Obidi described her attacker as a “black female standing five feet tall.” She also revealed she had been targeted with hateful remarks online before, but this physical assault was a stark reminder of the dangers.
“Currently in an ambulance to the hospital, there was a knife, acid attack on me in the UK ?? in the middle of a live stream,” Obidi wrote in the caption. “There’s been a lot of hate in the past but this physical assault is a wake-up call.”
Obidi’s sister, Instagram food influencer Nancy Umeh, also took to social media to share the news, revealing the attack occurred in Westminster, London. Umeh described the assailant as a “Black East-African woman” wearing a hoodie.
“Someone has threatened my sister’s life in the UK,” Umeh said in a tearful Instagram story. “They poured acid on my sister’s face. They threatened to stab her all over her body. They have stabbed her on her hands, just outside her Airbnb in Westminster, London.”
Umeh continued, expressing her fear and disbelief. She recounted calling the police and providing details of the suspect, described as a “black woman, East African in particular, perhaps a Kenyan, Sudanese, or maybe a Ugandan.”
“I no longer feel safe in this country,” Umeh concluded. “This is the height. This is the height of it all.”
The attack on Korra Obidi is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
