Accident Bafia Cameroon
A Toyota Starlet carrying passengers careened off the main road at Kon Nyabetta in Mbam and Inoubou Division, in Bafia, Center Region of Cameroon, narrowly avoiding a tragedy.
Witnesses reported seeing the speeding car lose control while heading towards Bangante from Bafia.
“I watched the car approach the bend,” one witness recounted, “then closed my eyes and screamed. When I opened them, it was already in the ditch.”
All occupants escaped with shock, despite the dramatic crash. “No one died, but they’re definitely shaken up,” confirmed a resident of Kon Nyabetta.
Other drivers gathered at the scene, unsure of what caused the accident. One, named Ambe, believes the driver may have dozed off at the wheel. “The distance the car flew into the bush suggests high speed and a lack of awareness, we also think he fell asleep” explained a passenger.
Though no lives were lost, the car sustained significant damage, including a shattered windshield. Locals assisted the shaken passengers as they emerged from the wreckage.
Cameroon registers an annual average of 16,583 road accidents, resulting in over 1,000 fatalities. This is based on official statistics and more than 6,000 according to estimates from the World Health Organization.
