Some irate youths in Small Mankon in Bamenda have taken to the streets in protest over the killing of civilians by Separatist fighters.

The protesters who took to the streets today in Small Mankon are demanding justice for some 10 persons who were murdered at Nacho Junction in Bamenda last Sunday.

10 civilians were killed by Ambazonia fighters who arrived in the area in vehicles.

During today’s protest, the demonstrators particularly pointed fingers at Ambazonia kingpin, Ayaba Cho Lucas as being behind the group of armed men who killed the residents.

The youth in the course of the protest, expressed their frustrations via placards brandished during the demonstration.

The protest was staged around the Small Mankon neighborhood in Bamenda. Three chiefs and dozens of bike riders and council officials in Bamenda two also took to the streets to say “no to killings in Bamenda.“

Who is Ayaba Cho Lucas?

Ayaba Cho Lucas is a prominent figure in the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon. He is the leader of the Ambazonia Governing Council (AGovC) and the Ambazonia Defence Forces (ADF), one of the main separatist groups fighting for the independence of the Anglophone regions of Cameroon. The crisis began in 2016, sparked by the government’s violent suppression of peaceful protests in the Anglophone regions, which have long felt marginalized by the Francophone majority.

Ayaba Cho Lucas has been a central figure in this conflict, advocating for the independence of the Anglophone regions, which he and his supporters refer to as Ambazonia. Under his leadership, the ADF has carried out numerous attacks against government forces and has been involved in various acts of violence, which have drawn international condemnation.

The Anglophone crisis has resulted in significant loss of life and displacement, with over 6,000 people killed and nearly a million displaced since the conflict began1. Ayaba Cho Lucas’s actions and leadership have been both pivotal and controversial in this ongoing struggle.
