A three-day cultural event in Tiko pulls thousands

A three-day cultural event started in the Council of Tiko, a municipality in the Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon. The celebration, the third of its kind, has brought together over 1,000 people from different cultural backgrounds and localities within Tiko.

Dubbed the Tiko Council Sports and Cultural Jamboree (TISCUJAM), the festival began on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, with a carnival and cultural display. It is aimed at promoting and exhibiting the various cultures of Cameroon and equally enhancing sporting activities.

On Thursday, December proceeded with a marathon and football matches later in the day.

The ceremony today, which drew a sizable crowd, started with the arrival of Divisional Officer of Tiko Kawah Armstrong, who was attending as the Head of State’s representative.

Present at the festival are the Mayor of the Municipality of Tiko, Chief Peter Mesoso Ikome, traditional rulers from the South West, centre, West, and other parts of the country, traditional dancers, and others.

This is one of the most successful public events in the municipality since the start of the Anglophone Crisis. Some Tiko residents have suffered attacks as the war between separatists and soldiers, which started in 2016, rages on.
