Abandoned grenade kills teenager in Kumbo

A teenager in Kumbo, Bui division of the North West region of Cameroon has been killed by a hand grenade.

The boy, MMI gathered, was killed as the grenade went off in his hands.

He had accompanied a neighbor to the farm, where he found the device and detonated it unknowingly.

The grenade, a resident of Kumbo tells MMI, “… was thrown by the military at amba boys some five days ago, but it failed to detonate.”

The unfortunate kid came across the weapon but was ignorant of what it was and its use.

“He picked it up, not knowing what it was, he pulled it up and this is the result” A source said.

It is not the first time an abandoned hand grenade has gone off in Kumbo.

The first grenade is said to have also been picked up by kids who were playing around, but fortunately for them, it was recognize and deactivated safely.
