Jailed Anglophone activist, Abdul Karim Ali, has appealed to the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, to end the ongoing armed conflict in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon during his mandate.

He made the request in an open letter that followed Trump’s victory in the November 5 US elections.

Trump will be sworn-in for a second non-consecutive term on January 20, 2025.

“As you prepare to take office, your legacy should be at the forefront of your mind, as the world will remember you for your actions and inactions, whether it’s for war or peace, justice or injustice, development or destruction, and humanity or vanity,” Abdul Karim said in the letter seen by MMI.

The first Trump administration, which lasted from 2017-2021 is noted for preventing global conflicts.

This experience convinces Abdul Karim to believe that, “We have seen you in that office before, and I am encouraged to say that you did not start wars, support genocides and dictators”.

According to him, the return of Donald Trump “will usher in an era of peace and stability in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, the Global Majority, Collective West, Global South and ensure that Southern Cameroonians are given the opportunity to determine their political future as an inalienable right.”

End to Global Conflicts

Abdul Karim Ali called for a stop to wars in Palestine and Ukraine and dialogue with Iran, North Korea, Russia, and China.

On Cameroon’s Anglophone Crisis, he urged the incoming Trump administration to “stop the war in Southern Cameroons and deploy your leverages on the government of Cameroun to engage in a mediated settlement.”

“Your leadership, Sir, can shape the future of our world, and I’m hopeful that you’ll make a positive impact,” he stated.

Mr. Trump had, in several campaign outings, promised to end the wars in Palestine and Ukraine.

Though no mention has so far been made of the crisis in Cameroon, Tibor Nagy, who served in the First Trump administration as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, hinted that the Cameroon government is likely to receive pressure from the incoming administration over mistreatment of the Anglophone population.
