Accident Claims Three Lives in Yaounde

An accident around Monthe Don Bosco in the Mimboman neighborhood of Yaounde IV subdivision has killed at least three people.

It occurred early this Thursday, October 17, 2024.

A trailer negotiating a bend had its back container break off, leaving a trail of devastation as it crushed two commercial taxis carrying passengers, including students who were heading to school.

Eyewitnesses report that the container of the truck was not properly clogged, leaving it to veer off onto the two taxis, trapping the passengers inside.

Onlookers quickly mobilized to rescue those trapped in the wreckage, managing to pull out some survivors from the mangled vehicles.

Unfortunately, the efforts were not enough to save everyone, and the remains of the victims were later taken to a nearby hospital with the quick intervention of a mobile ambulance.

The accident caused several hours of traffic jam in the Mimboman area, as the fallen trailer obstructed a large portion of the road.

Local authorities, including the Divisional Officer of Yaounde IV, Akondi Elvis Mbahangwen, the Mayor of Yaounde IV Council, Gabriel Bihina Efila, and representatives of the defence and security forces, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

Their presence underlined the seriousness of the incident, as they worked alongside rescue teams and security personnel to restore order and ensure the injured were attended to.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident, while authorities have urged drivers to remain cautious, especially in high-traffic areas such as Mimboman.

Meanwhile, the driver of the trailer ran into thin air.

More updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
