Three people were killed this morning in a tragic accident that occurred at Lalawai, a small town located along the Maroua-Mora stretch of National Road No. 1 in the Far North Region.
The incident, which occurred approximately 20 kilometres from Maroua, involved a Toyota Corolla car heading towards Maroua, the capital of the Far North.
The vehicle collided with a woman and her daughter who were on their way to the mill to crush millet.
Tragically, both victims were from the family of the local chief, Lawan Ardo of Doumkala. The impact was severe, with the car veering off the road and plummeting into a ravine.
The outcome of the accident is heartbreaking, with three lives lost, including two occupants of the car and the daughter of the village Chief.
Additionally, two people sustained serious injuries – the driver of the car and the Chief’s wife, both of whom were rushed to the Regional Hospital in Maroua.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, investigations have been initiated by the local gendarmerie to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Community leaders called for caution against excessive speed, a leading cause of frequent accidents along the Maroua-Mora road.
