The Governor of the Adamawa region, Kildadi Taguieke Boukar, has issued a directive barring the President of the Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) from holding political meetings and book dedication events in the region.

In an official letter addressed to the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) of Djerem, the Governor instructed the local authority to prevent the PCRN leader and his delegation from conducting any political gatherings, rallies, or activities deemed as incitement.

The Governor emphasized the urgency of the order and requested immediate feedback on its execution for proper reporting to the hierarchy.

This decision comes amid increasing political tensions as Cameroon approaches a critical electoral period. The PCRN, a rising opposition party, has been expanding its outreach across the country, with its leader engaging supporters through public events, including book presentations.

Local political observers view the ban as part of broader restrictions on opposition activities in Cameroon, where authorities often cite public order concerns to limit gatherings.

MINAT Behind the Ban

The order from the Adamawa governor is said to have been handed by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji.

The MINAT boss has for a while been cracking down on anti Biya opposition political parties while hailing those who support 92 years old Biya’s 4 decade regime.

Minister Paul Atanga Nji has particularly focused on the Cameroon Renaissance Movemnet of Prof. Maurice Kamto and the PCRN faction of Cabral Libii despite a court rulling recognizing Cabral as the president of the PCRN over Robert Kouna.

Atanga Nji had since recognized Kouna, going as far as having him endorse Biya all in an attempt to weaken the incluence of the party according to political observers.

The Governor’s release goes as far as having Cabral and team evicted from the region “…ensure the delegation leaves the administrative unit in line with their pre-approved itinerary.”, stated the release.

It remains unclear whether the PCRN leader will contest the decision or adjust his schedule accordingly.
