The self-styled separatist commander Stone of the Ambazonia Defence Forces (ADF) has been killed by Cameroon government forces.

Commander Stone was tracked and killed alongside another separatist fighter on the night of Sunday, June 30. The operation was carried out by officers of the Cameroon defense and security forces.

Their bodies, along with a motorcycle, were set on fire by their assailants.

The incident occurred in Alakuma, a neighbourhood in Bamenda, Mezam division of the North West region.

“General Stone was cornered at Alakuma early this morning, shot, killed, and burned along with his bike,” a source told MMI.

Information gathered indicates that the two fighters were trailed by plainclothes military personnel in a civilian vehicle.

Other separatist fighters rushed to the scene shortly after their colleagues were set on fire, according to amateur videos obtained by MMI.

“We arrived too late. They were already on fire, and there was nothing we could do to retrieve the corpses. Two of them were burned,” a suspected separatist fighter is overheard saying in the video.

Commander Stone was notorious for terrorising civilians in the city of Bamenda.

City residents expressed relief following his killing by Cameroonian government forces.

“People can now breathe,” said a local in reaction to the death of the separatist commander.

There has been no response from the Ambazonia Governing Council (AGovC) which is the leadership structure, controlling the ADF following his death. The armed group has been leading a campaign for a taxi colour change in Bamenda, a move that has faced widespread criticism.
