AFCON 2022: CAF to ‘seize’ Covid-19 test management from Cameroon

The Confederation of African Football two days ago published a communiqué which seemed to cast doubts over Cameroon’s competence in managing Covid-19 tests during the African Cup of Nations tournament in 2022.

It is becoming increasingly likely that Cameroon will be stripped of the rights to manage the tests, a task which might be awarded to individual bodies to handle throughout the tournament. In this regard, CAF has revealed that negotiations with the World Health Organization have started.

It should be made clear that the main reason for which CAF is seeking to put Cameroon aside from carrying out the tests on players was due to the scandal which occured with the Democratic Republic of Congo CHAN team.

Coach Florent Ibenge of DRC launched a tirade of accusations against the Cameroon Football Federation for working in complicity with Health Officials to produce fake Covid-19 results of his players, which aimed at disqualifying their best players.

After the complaints, CAF ordered fresh tests to be carried out on the players, this time finding out just three positive cases instead of the over 19 which were formerly declared by medical authorities.
