AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: uncertainty over the participation of Toko Ekambi & Nkoudou at Cameroon-Burundi fixtures

The presence of Karl Toko Ekambi, Indomitable Lion’s forward, and George-Kevin Nkoundou, the Lions’ winger at the fixtures against Burundi is uncertain at the moment. The encounter is scheduled to take place in Dar Es Sallam on Thursday 9, 2022 as part of the African Cup of Nations qualifications.

Toko Ekambi and Nkoundou both featured in the final list of players to face Burundi, which was made public by Rigobert Song, the head coach of the Lions, on May 27, 2022.

Both players were reportedly absent during training which took place last Sunday at the Bepanda reunification stadium.

The team press officer, Serge Guiffo however revealed that both players sustained light injuries.

” Karl Toko Ekambi and George Kevin Nkoundou did not participate in the training session for this Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Bepanda stadium for the match against Burundi.” he indicated.

He added that during the friendly match played on Sartuday against the local players, Nkoundou sustained a ‘shock’. For this reason, the latter had to undergo a medical examination the following day which happened to be the training day, while Toko Ekambi was said to be on rest.

The Lions are however set to leave Cameroon for Dar Es Sallam today after which they will have to face Burundi on Thursday.
