In a statement released on Thursday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that the champions of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON will be awarded a historic seven million dollars (4,192 billion FCFA).

This represents a substantial 40 percent increase from the prize money earned by Senegal, the winners of the previous edition held in Cameroon two years ago.

The runners-up in Ivory Coast, the host nation for the premier African football tournament taking place from January 13 to February 11, will receive four million dollars.

The statement outlines that losing semi-finalists will each receive $2.5 million, while quarter-finalists will be awarded 1.3 million each; however, specific details on other prize money categories were not provided.

Hosts Ivory Coast, alongside 23 other participating countries, including the record seven-time champions Egypt, will vie for glory in this highly anticipated event.

The tournament kicks off on January 13, with two-time champions Ivory Coast facing Guinea-Bissau, who are seeking their first win in three previous appearances, at the 60,000-seat Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

Below are the various AFCON Groups:

Group A: Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau.

Group B: Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde, Mozambique.

Group C: Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, The Gambia.

Group D: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Angola.

Group E: Tunisia, Mali, South Africa, Namibia.

Group F: Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, Tanzania.

The top two teams in each group and the four best-ranked third-placed teams will advance to the last 16.

Five hosts cities have been chosen with six stadiums used for the tournament.

  • Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan (capacity 60,000)
  • Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, Abidjan (33,000)
