AFCON2022: Fako Division Witnesses Heavy Security Boost

The towns of Tiko, Buea, and Limbe, in the South West Region, have witnessed a massive security boost ahead of the AFCON.

More troops have been reportedly deployed to the region in large numbers.

The increased security will be charged with neutralizing major security threats from Anglophone separatists, from towns that will be hosting games in the upcoming AFCON tournament.

Threats are said to have multiplied in recent weeks from the separatists. They have threatened to disrupt the tournament if it is organized in the South West Region.

Diasporan Ambazonian leader Tapang Ivo has reminded that “We vowed to fight the Cameroon military anywhere they are present in the entire territory of Ambazonia, whether it’s during the AFCON games that we have banned or after, we will continue to fight them tooth and nail,” he told the Voice of America.

He added “We are advising that AFCON must not be held in Ambazonia for the security concerns of visitors. They shouldn’t be present where there is a war going on.”

Residents of the South West Region say they have equally witnessed a noticeable increase in the number of soldiers and their war cars in the Region.

They have been concentrated along with major points in the host towns like markets, schools, and junctions.

Military sources have equally confirmed the increment of troops to the South West Region. The source says the move is to secure the players and the fans as they enjoy games away from the threats of the Separatists.

The South West Region will be hosting Group F matches, featuring teams like Gambia, Mali, Mauritania, and Tunisia.
