AFCON2022: Indomitable Lions Crown Colorful Opening Ceremony with Hard-Fought Win against Burkina Faso

Cameroon last night opened the Africa Cup of Nations tournament with a hard-fought win against the Stallions of Burkina Faso at the Olembe Omnisport Stadium on January 9, 2022.

The tightly contested game was decided by two penalties converted by Cameroon skipper Vincent Aboubakar.

The Indomitable Lions had earlier fallen behind in the 24th minute, after some piece of clumsy defending.

Events at the stadium began with a gleeful opening ceremony, presided over by Cameroon’s Head of State, Paul Biya, and CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.

The exuberant crowd at the 60, 000 capacity stadium was thrilled with amazing choreographic displays that represented Cameroon’s cultural heritage, proceeded by a buoyant display from Congolese music star, Fally Ipupa.

Cameroonian fans say they are optimistic about Cameroon’s chances at the current AFCON tournament.

Many have also expressed their satisfaction at the organization of the competition so far, and have hoped that the vibe that transpired through the opening ceremony, transcends to the whole tournament.
