The Minister of labour and Social Security , Grégoire Owona, has summoned leaders of some teachers’ trade unions to a working session May 17.

The action comes two days after the Minister of Territorial Administration, Pau Atanga Nji addressed a letter to governor’s nationwide ordering a crackdown on those whom he described as leaders of illegal teachers trade unions instigating another strike action.

Gregoire Owona in his statement detailed that the meeting will be focused on updating the teachers on progresse made in addressing teachers’ concerns.
Meanwhile leaders of non-formal movements in the education system, who wish to make contributions in the session, have been urged to contact the registry of trade Unions so they can participate legitimately and legally .

This decision comes after series of threats and reports of some teachers planning another strike action. Authorities have maintained that those pushing for another strike are manipulated by political interest groups that want to disturb public peace and order.

Members of government argue that President Biya has taken appropriate measures to address teacher’s concerns.
