The president of the Akum Welfare Association (AWA-UK), and a host of others have been bestowed with recognition titles by the traditional ruler of Akum, His Royal Highness Fon George Ndikum II.

Tanyi Mambo was designated the title of ‘Akum Ambassador for Europe’ during the just-ended Akum International cultural convention that took place in London, United Kingdom from June 30 to July 3, 2023.

Many others were also awarded titles for their exemplary roles in promoting the culture of the Akum people.

Reacting to his new role, Tanyi Charles Mambo said he was taken by surprise when he was called up and decorated by the reigning monarch of Akum.

“This occasion has brought another surprise. As president of AWA-UK, I was assisting in growing and developing something that is wonderful for Akum village. The Fon surprised and bestowed on me a title,” said Tanyi Mambo adding, “I am now a titled holder in Akum.”

The new feather he noted, “calls for greater responsibility. It means I have a role to bring together Akum sons and daughters in the UK and all of Europe to work towards the development of education, helping displaced children, and providing food and nutrition. Together we can do this and make Akum a better place for people to live.”

The AWA-UK convention was the first of its kind taking place outside the shores of Cameroon and was attended by thousands of guests from across the world.
