The body of fifty-year-old Alhaji Djibril has been buried this Monday morning June 3rd 2019.
Residents of Naikom village, Wum Subdivision in Menchum division in Cameroon’s restive North West region say he was killed in the course of an attack carried out by armed men believed to be loyal to Ambazonia, a country whose independence they seek.
To an inhabitant of the village “…all these atrocities were clearly committed by the amba boys because a majority of the boys are people that we know. They are our neighbours.”
Besides the person killed, five others were severely injured with two of the wounded villagers in a critical health condition at the Wum District Hospital.
At the level of material destruction, eyewitnesses have told Mimi Mefo Info that “they tried burning the houses but because of the heavy rains the previous day, it was not possible so they destroyed five houses with their material”.
“They attacked us on grounds that we are not supporting the struggle materially and financially. So when they came to the village last night, families that could not pay the amount they were asking had to suffer the damaging consequences,” a local adds.
Military men from Wum arrived this morning when the armed men had disappeared.
This is the second attack in Wum subdivision in less than a week. Last Thursday, domestic animals will killed, houses set ablaze and people tortured in Upkwa village.
In a release signed by the Governor of the North West region last Friday, Adolphe Lele L’Afrique accused separatist fighters for the attack. He went further to create a commission to investigate the damages and identify victims and their humanitarian needs.
Ambazonian activists denied all the allegations.
