Users of the Bamenda-Ndop stretch of the Ring Road in the North West Region were Wednesday, May 8, stranded after separatist fighters blocked vehicles from plying the road.

The blockade, which comes days after the killing of popular separatist commander, ‘General Sagon’, also affected movement along the Ndop-Kumbo-Ndu stretch.

“I went to the park on Wednesday to send some stuff to Nkambe and was told that the road through Ndop is not passable,” a Bamenda denizen told MMI.

“I am left with no choice than to use the alternative road through Magba, which is very expensive,” he added.

MMI gathered that fighters loyal to Sagon blocked the road as a retaliation to his killing by the Cameroon military.

The self-styled General was killed alongside two of his close associates in a military operation on Sunday.

A source told MMI Ambazonia fighters “have been constantly blocking the road even before the demise of General Sagon.”

He added, “We are just tired of these road blockades every now and then. I don’t know if this blocking of the road will bring back Sagon to life.”

It is not certain when the road is going to be reopened for circulation to resume. This road is a vital infrastructure, linking three Divisions in the North West to the regional capital Bamenda.

The blockade is coming at a time when Bamenda denizens have been forced to lockdown activities every Thursday for one month, following the killing of a certain ‘General Alhadji’ of Bafut by security and defence forces.
