Four individuals have sustained injuries due to an explosion at Nkwen Market in Bamenda, in an Ambazonia separatist attack, targeting civilians. This comes at the heart of an enforced lockdown in the city. Today’s incident targeted civilians who were going about their daily lives in defiance of the stay-at-home order that some separatist groups in the Anglophone regions had imposed.

Witnesses described a loud explosion that caused chaos among market-goers, with many rushing to find safety.

The injured individuals have been swiftly transported to local hospitals for necessary medical care. The severity of their injuries is still unknown, but reports from the scene indicate that the victims comprise both traders and shoppers.

Bamenda is currently experiencing a lockdown due to ongoing tensions in the Northwest and Southwest regions, where separatist forces are enforcing strict stay-at-home orders issued by certain separatist groups. Nevertheless, certain neighbourhoods, such as sections of Nkwen, have witnessed a considerable number of residents disregard the lockdown, particularly at the lively Nkwen Market, which has continued to operate with notable activity despite the imposed restrictions.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the explosion; however, the attack has heightened concerns about the safety of civilians, especially those striving to uphold a sense of normalcy during this tense time.
