Andre Onana shares pleasantries with Marc Brys at Old Trafford

Indomitable Lions coach Marc Brys met with goalkeeper Andre Onana in England on Wednesday, April 24, as part of his international tour to Cameroonian national team players in international clubs.

Marc Brys and Onana met at Old Trafford on the sidelines of Manchester United’s game against Sheffield in which United won 4-2.

Onana, who is the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, was seen exchanging pleasantries with the new coach, whose appointment on April 2 was rejected by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

The Belgian national undertook an international tour earlier this month to galvanize Indomitable Lions players abroad ahead of Cameroon’s World Cup Qualifiers game against Cape Verde on June 3.

He initiated the tour days after signing a two-and-a-half-year renewable contract with Cameroon’s Ministry of Sports and Physical Education on April 9.

Brys’ tour has taken him to Frankfurt, where he watched two potential targets, Hugo Ekitike and Dina Ebimbe, play.

He has also met with right back Junior Tchamadeu, who accompanied him on Wednesday to watch Andre Onana’s game against Sheffield.

After his meeting with Onana, Marc Brys proceeded to Brentford on Thursday, April 25, where he met Cameroonian attacker, Bryan Mbuemo.

Mbuemo, who is among his team’s top scorers this season, was absent from the Indomitable Lions squad that played the 2023 African Nations Cup in Ivory Coast this year.

Andre Onana himself played just one out of Cameroon’s three games at the competition, where the Indomitable Lions took an early exit in the second round.

Despite his rejection by FECAFOOT, Marc Brys is definitely not giving up in his strive to reconstitute a team that will be formidable enough to win back Cameroon’s dwindled prestige in the footballing scene.

FECAFOOT, led by celebrated football legend, Samuel Eto’o, is yet to officially recognize Marc Brys as coach of the men’s national football team more than three weeks after his appointment.
