Anglophone crisis: Ndu and Ndawara Tea Plantations layoff 3,000 workers, shut down

Officials of the Cameroon Tea Estate have disclosed that rising insecurity in the North West has forced the company to shut down the Ndu and Ndawara tea plantations in the region.

The decision to shut down the company has resulted in the joblessness of about 3000 workers.

According to the manager of the Danpullo group that runs the Cameroon Tea Estate, the corporation’s production capacity has been seriously affected by numerous security incidents.

“We have been victims of deadly acts of vandalism. Many of our workers have been killed on their way to work and at work, ” he said.

“Our production capacity dropped to 50% and two trucks transporting tea were burnt, warehoused burnt, crops burnt, we couldn’t transport fuel to the factory and worst of it all our products couldn’t be transported to the market, so we have no choice than to shut down”, the manager added.

Meantime, the Senior Divisional Officer of Donga Mantung Division, where the company is located, has been notified of the decision to close down the plantation.

Nkwenti Simon Dooh laments that about 3,000 workers have been laid off following the closure of the Ndu Tea Plantation.
